The Bourbon Friday Show with Cody Beck from American Hauntings Podcast
On this episode of the Bourbon Friday Show we had the opportunity to talk with Cody Beck from American Hauntings Podcast about his journey into the world of hauntings and podcasting.
Cody Beck — Passion Project turned Podcast
To kick off this Bourbon Friday Show we heard from Cody Beck from American Hauntings Podcast about the show’s recent 100,000 download milestone as well as some advice about starting a podcast venture.
Beck’s interest in the stories surrounding ghosts and hauntings began in his adolescence. Originally from Alton, IL, it’s easy to see why—it’s a town full of these types of legends and lore.
A little over a year ago Beck decided he would reach out to, Troy Taylor, a long time legend in this field about doing a podcast together. After putting in what he calls “free work” and meeting over lunch, the deal was done. They began recording the show, which has now reached over 105,000 downloads—an impressive number for being one year in.
While it’s been a rewarding experience so far, Beck readily admits that it hasn’t been without its challenges. From never feeling ‘ready enough’ to begin, equipment hiccups and faux pas, to obsessing over reviews (both positive and negative) this passion project has been quite the adventure.
To anyone who’s looking to start their own podcast, or has been putting it off for awhile a word of advice: “There’s no magic point, you’re not gonna feel good and not going to have an epiphany. Just do it. Do one episode, see what happens.”
Bourbon Innovation
As always, the Bourbon Friday team does their best to choose a fitting drink for the occasion.
The bottle this week was Buffalo Trace from the Buffalo Trace Distillery, which has a ghost tour as part of their distillery tour. So notable are these hauntings that they’ve even been featured on the hit show Ghost Hunters. In fact there are reports to this day that Colonel Blanton (one of the greats in bourbon innovation) still haunts the Buffalo Trace Distillery grounds where he died.
