Drugviu—Empowerment for Your Health
When taking a new medication, it’s important to know how it may affect you and what side effects it has. For many, the internet is the first place to look—but what if there isn’t any information regarding how that medication will affect someone of your race, age, or interact with other medicines you take.
In fact, only 6 percent of drug trials include people of color. What’s even more concerning is that for conditions more often experienced by communities of color, there is even less information.
“Drugviu is a site that crowdsources medication, reviews, and experiences from communities of color,” says Igwe “we have people fill out reviews and from there communities of color or people in those different demographics are able to view that information to have a better understanding of side effects for them.”
The site recently finished the beta phase and from that they garnered over 2,000 reviews and got great feedback from users, and they hope this pattern continues. Drugviu is accessible on both desktop and mobile platforms.
“We’re just really trying to push people to go on, share their medication experiences so we can start controlling the way we look at and maintain our health”
To do that, Drugviu consults with physicians and healthcare providers to make sure the data provided is accurate, anonymizes data entered by users to protect security, and have even partnered with a large discount prescription provider to offer discounts on medications.

Bourbon Innovation
As always, the Bourbon Friday team does their best to choose a fitting drink for the occasion.
The bottle this week was Old Grand-Dad 114. This bourbon brand made a name for itself during the Prohibition in America, as doctors would prescribe it for a variety of ailments such as: high blood pressure, tuberculosis, and cancer. Old Grand-Dad was a particularly favorite due to its high alcohol content.
