launchcode expansion

Boeing Awards $165,000 Grant to Enable Over 600 LaunchCode Students

Boeing has awarded a $165,000 grant to LaunchCode to support free training and job placement for more than 600 aspiring technologists in St. Louis. The goal of the grant funding is to provide driven individuals a pathway to upward career mobility, creating a pipeline of diverse, skilled workers entering the region’s most in-demand industry.

β€œA significant tech talent gap exists today, resulting in many high-paying jobs in technology being left unfilled. The demand for people with software development skills outstrips the supply of people who obtain these skills through the traditional, 4-year college degree programs,” said Sarah Mayer, Boeing Senior Director and LaunchCode Board Member.

β€œLaunchCode addresses both the supply and demand side of the tech talent gap by making a career in coding accessible to all, and connecting employers with LaunchCode graduates through apprenticeship positions that lead to high-paying positions that offer future career growth. This results in not only a brighter future for individual LaunchCoders, but also improves employers’ ability to deliver products and services to their customers.”

In October, St. Louis-based entrepreneur network ITEN predicted a 60 percent growth in tech jobs in the region over the next three to five years. Now the most prolific creator of new software developers in the region, LaunchCode has educated over 3,000 individuals in its hometown of St. Louis alone.

Boeing has awarded LaunchCode over $500,000 in grant funding since the nonprofit’s inception and hired over 30 LaunchCoders through the Apprenticeship Program.
