SafeTrek Makes CNBC Top Startups List

SafeTrek, the personal safety app, was ranked #3 in CNBC’s inaugural Upstart 25 list of β€œmost promising young startups” on Tuesday. GlobalHack To Launch Summer Camp
For eight weeks this summer, GlobalHack will run its first ever summer camp. The camp will run weekly sessions for middle and high school students in June and July around game design, app and web development. Registrations for the camp launch this week.

InvestMidwest Returns to KC

On March 28-29, the InvestMidwest Venture Capital Forum take place at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center. The annual event, which rotates between Kansas City and St. Louis, will feature 45 high-growth companies from the Midwest along three industry tracks: Life Sciences, IT/Technology and Food/AgTech/Bioenergy. Over 70 venture investors attend every year and participate in panels and networking events. Early registration ends March 10.

Two Tech Companies Win Arcus Awards

The St. Louis Regional Chamber gave awayΒ two awards to tech companies at its annual event on February 23. About a dozen innovation and technology organizations were finalists in 11 award categories. The Arcus Award for Achievement in Biosciences went to Tioma Therapeutics, while Varsity Tutors received the Arcus Award for Achievement in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

TechShop Hosts St. Louis Public Schools Design Challenge

On Monday, February 27, TechShop St. Louis will host the first ever St. Louis Public Schools Design Challenge. The three-day event, β€œmeant to ignite innovation, foster a love of learning and social action within the students in our community,” will include 28 students who will be assigned to small groups, each with a TechShop mentor. Groups will work on unique design challenges such as youth homelessness, the launch of a new business and providing healthy learning environments. On-site for 4 hours each day, the students will complete a full prototype and will learn how to handle up to 3 pieces of equipment.

GVMS Rolls Out FlipZone
The Gateway Venture Mentoring Service (GVMS), in collaboration with University of Missouri Saint Louis’s – Innovative Technology Enterprises (ITE), announces the roll out of FlipZone, a comprehensive, hands-on training program. It combines video-based instruction, peer mentoring, and classroom facilitation. The FlipZone program is spread over 20 weeks with a new module every two weeks that proceeds step by step to establish a comprehensive plan for growth and evolution. GlobalSTL to Host 12 Israeli AgTech Companies

On March 6, GlobalSTL, an initiative of BioSTL, will host a delegation of 12 innovative Israeli AgTech companies at Donald Danforth Plant Science Center for networking with the St. Louis AgTech community. The visiting group will include Israeli companies specializing in areas such as crop protection, crop nutrition, plant genetics and breeding, irrigation and decision support tech.
